How to come up with TikTok Shop hooks when you're out of ideas

Ways to find your next hook, from your own posts that sold to formats you can borrow.

Every creator hits the wall: you have a product to sell, the camera's ready, and you have no idea how to open. The first two seconds decide whether anyone stays, so the pressure to get the hook right can make it even harder. Here are ways to find your next hook that don't depend on a sudden burst of inspiration.

Start with your own posts that sold

Your best source of hooks is your own history. Look at your few best-selling videos and write down, word for word, what happened in the first two seconds. You'll probably see a pattern: maybe your best ones open on the product mid-demo, or on a problem the viewer has, or on a surprising result. That pattern is your starting point. Change the product and the words, keep the shape.

Hook formats that work for products

  • Show the result first. Open on the clean carpet, the finished hairstyle, the before-and-after. Explain afterwards.
  • Name the problem. "If your floors look like this after one dog walk…" The right viewer sees themselves immediately.
  • The honest doubt. "I didn't think this would work." Then show it working.
  • The comparison. Your product next to the expensive one, or the old way next to the new way.
  • The silent demo. No talking, just the product doing something satisfying, with one line of text on screen.
  • The specific detail. "This $20 thing replaced three things under my sink." Numbers and specifics beat vague praise.

Borrow formats, not words

When you see a video go viral, even outside your niche, ask what it did, not what it said. Was it a reveal? A countdown? A reaction? A "things I'd buy again" list? You can borrow that structure for your own product. Copying someone's exact script or footage isn't fair to them and rarely works anyway; using a format is how ideas spread.

Make it easy on yourself

  1. Batch your hooks. Write ten openings for one product at once, then film the three best. The first few are usually the obvious ones; the good ones come later.
  2. Film several openings for the same video. Record three different first lines and post the strongest, or test them across a few posts.
  3. Keep a swipe file. Every time a hook stops your scroll, save it with a note on why.

Keep hooks within TikTok Shop's rules

A strong hook can still get you in trouble if it overpromises. Avoid guaranteed results, health or medical claims, and before-and-afters you can't back up. A hook that breaks TikTok Shop's content rules can get the video restricted and the commission withheld, which is worse than a weak hook.

How Ollexio helps

  • Remix angles from your own posts that sold: new openings and formats based on what already worked for you.
  • Viral Spin. Paste a link to a video that's taking off, and Ollexio reads the technique and writes your version for your product, in your words.
  • AI Review scores the hook on posts you've made, so you can see which openings hold attention.
  • Scripts that follow TikTok Shop's rules, with a check before you film.

It won't film for you, but it means you never start from a blank page.

Questions creators ask

How long should a TikTok Shop hook be?

Short enough that the viewer knows what they're looking at within a second or two. Often that's one sentence, or the product doing something surprising with no words at all.

Can I copy another creator's hook?

Borrow the format, not the words. A structure like "I didn't believe this until…" is fair game. Their exact script and footage are theirs.

Are there words I shouldn't use in a hook?

Yes. TikTok Shop's content rules limit things like guaranteed results, medical claims and exaggerated before-and-afters. A hook that breaks them can get the video restricted, and even get commission withheld.
